Race Report Shield Golf – Extreme Festival 12 & 13th of November
It’s hard to believe that we at the last race of the year and with all that’s happened during 2021 I am excited to announce the Shield Golf is leading the championship, however this puts us in an extremely vulnerable position. Any DNF in a heat or a problem with the car could end the dream of winning both class and championship in Clubman’s and a solid finish in Class B of 111 series.
Wining Clubman’s meant I had to finish in the top 3 on Index for the day and had to finish no less than 2nd or 3rd in class if I was going to ensure that my lead going into the festival was enough to come up trumps in 2021. Weather was also a factor as the forecast for Saturday meant possible late afternoon thundershowers a wet start in the second heat , which comes with its own challenges and risk on wet surface .
Qualifying for both 111 and Clubman’s went reasonable in 111 qualifying 2nd behind Joshua Weyers who has picked up some pace and 3rd in Clubman’s which was not ideal but within string distance.
Heat 1
In both 111 & Clubman’s I managed a 2nd overall and was just trying to stay out of trouble and keep the laps time consistent to ensure my Index on Performance was consistent. Index counts 50% of the overall scoreboard for the championship and has max of 10 points up for grabs relevant to position in the top 10 for the day – key is you need to finish both heats on the day and then 2nd in class meaning I picked up 3 valuable points in Heat 1
Heat 2
Clubman’s was my main focus on the day and all I had to do was finish in the top 3 and try avoid any hiccups on the track and bring the car over the finish line. I can’t begin to explain how long these 8 laps took and the noises and squeaks I stared to hear from the car as my mind started to play games with me as the laps counted down.
Finally, the chequered appeared and I had managed to come home in 1st in Class B and my index must have been reasonable enough to be placed in the top 5 , giving me sufficient points to have hopefully won overall. Our prize giving is on the 11 of December @ Red Star Raceway and unless due some miss calculation I hopefully have taken the overall title for 2021 in Clubmans .
111 saw me finish up first in class B for the day.
Once I have the official results from Clubman’s I will write up the story for the year –
BIG THANKS SHIELD for all the support.
