Morning qualifying session, saw Louis Scholtz (Car Care Clinic Honda Ballade) heading Class B from Waldo Swiegers (Waldo Swiegers Photography VW Golf) and myself Wayne Lebotschy (Shield VW Golf) all within .5 of second which was going to make from some interesting racing.
Heat 1
Hey …. what can I say if there is drama at turn 5 on the opening lap of the first heat – I need to be first in line, first Emmenis running wide and then Johan van der Vyver spinning his Devlaw Subaru WRX into Adrian Dalton and then guess what – turning it straight in front of me ….eeeeina!
Not one to give up …I rushed into the pit stop outside the VW Challenge pits and the team of Lyle Ramsey and Andy Gossman came out pulled off the bumper, duct taped the side fender and did a quick check that the oil cooler and radiator was intact all in formula 1 speed, sending me out again to finish the heat, this unfortunately set me way back in the race.
Heat 2
After doing a camo patch job on the green mamba …and sorting the bumper out we were all set for heat two, unfortunately starting 19th on the grid this time around. Carving through the back end of the field made for an interesting session to say the least and managed to claw myself back into second place in class B, with a bit of luck which left me with a 3rd overall for the day.
Look forward to seeing you at the next event!
